Really, I’m referring to the “Good news for modern man” bible. I remember my sisters had them for youth group in the 1970’s. I REALLY liked them.. because they had drawings depicting certain verses.. sort of like a early version of a graphic novel per-se!
Only much later did I realize that all these drawing were done by a talented German woman, named Annie Vallotton. She lived to be 98! passing only in 2013.
I have always been intrigued by these illustrations. They were so simple, but yet emoted the story line of the verse SO well.
I want to make some art that would honor Annie! I wish she was still alive so I could send her one of my renditions of her art. She can know I honor her in every iteration.
I mentioned in other Posts, that I approach faith with an a-religious perspective. I am not a religious man. But that does not stop me from appreciating the iconography of religion. It moves me.
The materials for these came from some scrap 11 Gauge hot rolled steel, and Copper from my days as a Television Engineer. This copper was formerly transmission line that went up at 2000 foot tall tower. The wood is from shingle from an old Leyden Co. Homestead, and the stones were picked up in the foothills of the Rocky mountains, just West of Leyden, Co.
Special Request
My sister has a important friend that she shares a special bond with. When she saw the good news with Jesus Washing Johns Feet, She asked me to make a special edition for her as a gift. Of course! I’d love to! I think it turned out well.
