For a few years now, I have gathered some friends together to do a special metalworking project. It’s averaged about once a year over the last few years. Some years more, some less. I don’t know why I don’t do it more often, because I always enjoy it.
This year, we gathered Dan and Jamie and Chris (The original “Mad Scientist Club” members from Colorado. ) To make roses, just in time for Valentine’s day! The materials we used were, Copper from some old Transmission waveguide, scrapped from a television station, and some steel for the stands. The waveguide carried 7Ghz RF at about 12 watts for what was called the “STL’ or, “studio transmitter link” to the broadcast tower from the television station. It was a very directional link, and all of the programming of the television station passed by this particular peice of copper for years!! Imagine all of the news programs and the soap operas, and stories that this copper made possible.. very interesting!
While Assembling and Brazing and Forming, we had some really good conversation! We talked about adventures (and misadventures!) at work, Past special projects, things going on in families. We also all are super excited to see if Jamie and Chris get that Wazer water jet this weekend!
Anyway, here are a couple pictures of our activities 🙂
